At one time, Pompano Beach was the end of the line so to speak, as the southernmost railroad station of the famous Florida East Coast Railway. One of the employees of that railroad gave Pompano Beach its name. He wrote down the name of the fish he had for dinner, hence, Pompano Beach. The Pompano runs abundantly in the warm waters of the Atlantic off Pompano Beach. The first train arrived in the small settlement of Pompano on February 22, 1896.
